pOSTGRADUATE sCHOOL

MPE/MSc

The consecutive MSc course "Medical Radiation Sciences" combines an academic course leading to MSc degree with an education to a Medical Physics Expert (MPE), a certificate which is given by radio protection authorities.

The master course includes a wide field of subjects especially in medicine, biology, physics, informatics and technology. The practical knowledge of a MPE is obtained by an extensive hands-on training in the facilities of the university hospital Carl Gustav Carus (radiotherapy and radiooncology, nuclear medicine and radiological diagnostics department) and in the radiotherapy department of the Academic Education Hospital Dresden-Friedrichstadt.

Study course

- Medical Physics-Experts (MPE) are postgraduate trained specialists for physical tasks in   radiological branches of medicine (nuclear medicine, X-ray diagnostics, radiotherapy),   licensed by the supervisory authorities.

- The MPE education takes 2 years and has to be carried out as a hands-on training in   licensed hospitals.

- Within this 2 years academic postgraduate studies are completed leading to MSc   degree in Medical Radiation Sciences.

- Contents of the study course are: medical radiation physics; radiation protection;   physical and technological basics of nuclear medicine, radiology and radiation therapy;   medical informatics and imaging; radiation biology; basics of medicine; juristic, ethical,   economical and management aspects of modern high-tech medicine.

- Hands-on training, seminars and lectures are embedded in a most modern   technological and medical environment and are interdisciplinary supported by a team of   internationally accepted scientists. Attractive topics of current interest for the master   thesis are obtained by leading working groups.

- The contents of the course fulfil all requirements of the German supervisory authorities   to the knowledge of MPEs as well as the more far-reaching requirements of DGMP and   EFOMP and give the possibility to get the "Fachanerkennung" in medical physics after   another year of education.

Preconditions for participation

- Degree in physics, engineering sciences, other natural or technical sciences.

- Knowledge of German and English language.

- Admission interview.

Study conditions

- The closed connection of education with the innovative research fields of
our centre ensures studies on highest academic level.

- The low number of students guarantees a very good individual support.

- No study fees. Students, who are accepted for the postgraduate course, can get an   educational credit with attractive conditions (800 Euro per month).

- The location Dresden is standing for a synthesis of arts, sciences and high-technology.

Professional perspectives

- In Europe, especially in Germany, there is a gap of educated medical physics experts.

- Graduates have excellent occupational outlook. The bandwidth of positions is spread   from health care institutions over the medical industries and public administration up to   the field of education and research.

Applications

- Sending an informal application to the OncoRay office until June 30 of
  each year is sufficient.
